OUR DESIRE

Before anything else, we desire to be Jesus-centred as people and as a church. We are convinced that our local church exists FOR Calgary and FOR the world.
Our vision is to be a community of disciples who make disciples of Jesus.

Meet Our Pastors

Kurt Willems,

Lead Pastor

Prior to his call to Brentview, Kurt was a pastor in central California and Seattle, Washington. He holds a master of divinity degree from Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary and a master's degree in comparative religion from the University of Washington (where he focused on the historical Paul within Judaism and the Roman Empire). Kurt also completed a two-year training program to become a spiritual director called, Stewards of the Mystery. He loves hanging out with his wife, Lauren, and their amazing two daughters. Kurt’s first book is called, Echoing Hope: How the Humanity of Jesus Redeems our Pain. Also, he loves football, basketball, and skateboarding.

David Friesen, Executive Pastor

David has had several roles at Brentview including Pastor of Family Ministry for many years and then Executive Pastor for the last 6 years. His passion is to align our ministries to our vision and values. David has a Master of Arts in Leadership from Trinity Western University and a Bachelor of Theology from Vanguard College. He believes God is the ultimate creative and that designing innovative spaces is an intimate and honouring form of worship. David is most proud of his family. His wife and three kids are his happy place.

Jodi Bruneski, Pastor for Generations & Groups

Pastor Jodi moved to Calgary in 2013 to complete her Sociology degree at the University of Calgary. Brentview has been her church home ever since! Prior to being our Pastor for Generational Ministry, she oversaw our Kids Ministry. Jodi is passionate about Jesus, connecting with people, and helping everyone find their place in the church family. She loves snow, books, and cuddling her dog, Maybe.

Pete Morrison, Pastor for Worship Arts & Missional Engagement

Pastor Pete began his journey from his native home of Northern Ireland to Brentview when he was called as the Pastor of Student Ministries. Now, as the Pastor who oversees our worship spaces and our missional initiatives, he continues to bring his passions to our church. With an enthusiasm for the unconventional, Pete values design and aesthetic alike, and enjoys little more but to sip coffee in a well designed room. He has a heart for worship and Justice, and to see every person made welcome at the table.

Carmen Topham, Pastor for Students & Creative Arts

Carmen Yochim moved to Calgary from Gold Canyon, Arizona to attend university in 2015, and started attending Brentview that summer. In 2019 she joined the staff as their Communications Coordinator shortly before graduating from Alberta University of the Arts with a Bachelor of Design in Photography. Since then she moved to a full time position as Brentview’s Director of Communication and Production, and most recently is Brentview’s Pastor for Students & Creative Arts. Carmen is passionate about seeing students know Jesus, helping services run smoothly, and infusing creativity into her job and relationship with Jesus.

Ron Kernohan, Pastor to Seniors

Pastor Ron has given most of his life to loving people in the name of Jesus. He brings a heart for teaching the Scriptures and shepherding God’s people to his role as the Pastor to Seniors.
